Our School

Rising Starr Middle School, a Georgia School of Excellence and Lighthouse School to Watch, is located in Fayette County 30 minutes south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Rising Starr Middle School follows the Middle School Concept, where education for young adolescents is developmentally responsive, challenging, empowering, and equitable. Connections classes provide hands-on experiences that allow students to explore future career and leisure activities. Students have access to a variety of sports, clubs, and fine arts opportunities before, during, and after school to promote different areas of interests and passions, and are encouraged to explore their multiple intelligences. Enrollment at the school is currently 912 students, and approximately 50% of the school participates in chorus, band, or orchestra.

High and consistently improving academic achievement and social emotional growth for all students is the primary goal of the faculty and staff of Rising Starr Middle School where all stakeholders embrace the vision “to inspire and prepare students to succeed” at whatever endeavors they undertake, now and in the future.  The 2019 CCRPI score for RSMS was 97.6. Students are heterogeneously grouped; gifted students, general education students, English language learners, and students with disabilities are served in mixed ability classes across content areas with appropriate support to meet the individual needs of all students.  First designated as a Lighthouse School to Watch in 2004, RSMS is one of only a few schools in the state to receive redesignation five times.
